Case Study –¬†Solicitors

KCS were asked to resolve network problems for a practice with twenty five fee earners and seven partners of which three were equity partners. The practice has two sites and the usual requirements for solicitors, namely a reliable system that should be behind the scenes but with an emphasis on value.

The firm in this case were experiencing regular printing problems. In the office, printing would intermittently stop on the network, disrupting work.

Furthermore they had problems when fee earners were working remotely and undertaking their time recording. Time recording was not always accessible remotely and when it was, it was often very slow.

KCS identified a requirement for the installation of a terminal server to allow secure and fast remote access to the time recording in case-management software. The terminal server was installed and this now allows fee earners to work from any internet enabled location, with security that matches compliance requirements. The printing problem was traced to the deployment of the wrong printer drivers (which are the software interface between what you send to print and what actually arrives at the printer) on the network. As a result printing is now problem free.

The third challenge posed by the practice was to move away from traditional dictation and allow fee earners to dictate from home or from Court without tapes. Digital dictation software was implemented and the fee earners are now able to upload dictation from any internet enabled location, viewing where the work is in the typing queue and prioritising work which needs to be done more urgently.
